Last week Dr. Tommy Wood and I released a podcast called - Is Lifting Dangerous and How Much Muscle Do You Need To Cheat Death?
Before we get into the data, I want to throw out my opinion.
Everything carries risk and I don’t think arguing about the differences in risk profiles between competitive Power Lifting, Strong Man, CrossFit, Body Building, Team Sports, or Running/Endurance Events is really that fruitful or helpful.
These activities seem to carry somewhat similar risk profiles if we look at prospective longitudinal self-reported injury risk data. Additionally, even if there was some kind of drastic risk reduction between these sports I don’t think it would push someone to leave something they love for a sport they hate or didn’t naturally gravitate towards.
