People are generally terrible at playing calorie math in their heads, and surprisingly to most, the calorie calculators that an app or website sales funnel gives you are probably just as bad, if not worse.
As humans, we tend to UNDERestimate the calorie content of food by around ~20-50% [1-6] and OVERestimate the number of calories we burn from exercise by as much as 300-400% [7, 8]!
We all like to make ourselves look good in our own minds and we will generally give ourselves the benefit of the doubt when it comes to the amount we think we eat and exercise.
