Low carb tends to work because it inherently limits options and people generally increase their consumption of whole foods and protein, but one doesn't need to go low carb do to this!
We can absolutely utilize a whole foods approach with more moderate carbohydrates and still see results.
That said, carbohydrates are the only non-essential macronutrient so when nutritionists are turning people into food numbers it is generally the last macro we will calculate.
